THE DURGA DAS FOUNDATION
The Durga Das
Foundation was set up in 1991. Named after the revolutionary
freedom fighter and former Chairman of the Punjab Legislative
Council, the late Mr.
Durga Das Khanna, the Foundation strives to uphold
his principles of commitment, honesty and "country above
self". The Foundation with its missionary zeal and enthusiasm
is a blend of a traditional value system and modern ideology.
The Durga Das
Foundation is a non-profit, non-government philanthropic organization
dedicated to education, promotion of art and culture and runs
programmes for the less privileged.
The Foundation's current programme
interests lie within five broad thematic areas:
- Workshops for children, aiming
at their creative and artistic development.
- Pre-school education and recreation.
- Day cares.
- Rural and slum projects relating
to education, vocational guidance and public health.
- Art and culture promotion
through concerts and recitals by renowned and amateur artistes
in the fields of Indian classical music and dance, theatre
and art.
Registered as
a Trust on 6.1.1994, with the Sub Registrar, Chandigarh, the
DDF is governed by a Board of Trustees. The Trustees are eminent
and responsible persons drawn from various sectors of life
- business, public sector, universities and research institutions.
All major decisions are routed through the Trust.
